The timeless Patera Oval follows the same elegant design principles as the circular Patera and is assembled entirely by hand, following the mathematic structure of the captivating Fibonacci spiral. With its flat, minimalist design, the Patera Oval caters to spaces with limited ceiling height or where headroom is required. The pendant is also perfect as a high-hanging pendant or above a dining table to create a spacious feeling between the table and ceiling.
In the words of the designer: “My ultimate goal was to create a three-dimensional Sudoku. It was an extremely mathematical assignment. In fact, it’s the most complex light I have ever made [...] I think it has a certain poetry about it, and my aim was to construct a modern crystal chandelier. I hope people will feel inspired to move around it. I hope it generates life.”
At once sophisticated and daring, the reimagined chandelier is a dazzling addition to modern or traditional spaces open to new twists on classic concepts. A single Patera creates a luminous focal point. A series of them – staggered or aligned, in one size or all three – creates the sense of magic we feel when we look up at the starry sky.
The pendant is a glowing ellipsoid made up of diamond-shaped cells. Each cell has been carefully designed to capture light and to conceal the light source when viewed from angles above 40 degrees. Below 40 degrees, the lamp provides direct, downward light. The round opening underneath provides direct light with a soft transition toward the reflected light. The pendant can be used with or without a diffuser plate, depending on whether or not the view of the light source creates an unwanted glare.
